Description:

Ancient Egypt, Second Intermediate Period, 14th to 17th Dynasty, ca. 1725 to 1550 BCE. A hand-carved steatite amulet depicting Ra, the god of the sun. This amulet presents the solar deity in his zoomorphic falcon form standing atop an integral plinth with his chest protruding from between back-folded wings. His raised avian head peers forward with petite eyes and is surmounted by a sun disc and a perforated suspension loop on the verso. Soft green glaze covers the amulet in layers of refined color. Size: 0.4" W x 1.3" H (1 cm x 3.3 cm)

  • Condition: Losses to beak and top half of sun disc as shown. Chips to bottom of plinth, with minor softening to some finer details, and fading to original pigment. Nice preservation to some details and areas of glaze pigment.
