Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty, reign of Ramesses II, ca. 1279 to 1213 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab exhibiting naturalistic insectile features on the top while decorated with green-hued glaze. Beneath the scarab is an inscription reading "Usermaatra-setepenra" which translates to "The justice of Ra is powerful, chosen of Ra." The body is pierced lengthwise for suspension. Size: 0.81" L x 0.53" W x 0.35" H (2.1 cm x 1.3 cm x 0.9 cm)
