Egypt, 3rd Intermediate Period, ca. 1070 - 712 BCE. A striking gold amulet of the goddess Hathor, the god of joy, motherhood, feminine love, fertility, and the welcome of the departed into the afterlife. She is depicted wearing a crown of horns, holding a sun disk, with Uraeus in front. She is standing with arms at her sides and body in straight posture. Made using the repousse technique, in which the reverse side is hammered in order to form the face. An original shred of textile remains draped above crown. A beautiful and rare piece of Egyptian gold! 2-1/4"H. Custom frame (12-1/2" x 10-3/4").

Provenance: Ex-Private Boulder, CO, Collection; Ex-Alex Malloy Collection, acquired in 1979.
