Description:

Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet in the form of Bes, the dwarf god. Once covered in green glaze, the surface is now beige with traces of the glaze. Bes is standing in a classic pose with openwork arms and hands resting on his hips. The composition is janiform, with two of the same face joined back to back. His strong facial expression is calm and he stares forward with almond eyes, protruding ears, furrowed brow, flared nose, and lips surrounded by a beard. An amulet for protection, the ears are perforated for suspension. Bes was a protector of the household and warded off all malevolent things, making him a popular talisman for many Egyptians to carry, and a double headed Bes made sure evil was spotted from all directions! Size: 1.62" W x 1.875" H (4.1 cm x 4.8 cm); 2.5" H (6.4 cm) on included custom stand.
