Description:

Egypt, New Kingdom / Third Intermediate Period, ca. 1550 to 664 BCE. A stunning scarab amulet finely carved from brilliant blue lapis lazuli, complete with stylized legs, face, and winged shell. The bottom is absent of any carvings or hieratic script, and a small drill hole runs through the length of the beetle making it possible to wear on a strand. Amulets of the scarab were immensely popular for thousands of years in ancient Egypt, worn and carried by the living, although by the time of the Third Intermediate period, they had also become part of the increasingly elaborate ensemble of funerary pieces intended to protect the deceased. Size: 0.875" L x 0.625" W x 0.375" H (2.2 cm x 1.6 cm x 1 cm)
