Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A fine offering bowl carved from alabaster with a flat, annular base, gradually expanding walls, and a thick rim surrounding the shallow basin. The ancient vessel is naturally adorned in beautiful hues of creamy beige, butterscotch, and light peach. The integral veining and inclusions within the alabaster illuminate when the vessel is held next to a bright light. Offering bowls like this example were used in temples and placed in the tombs of people at all class levels. Size: 5.625" in diameter x 2.25" H (14.3 cm x 5.7 cm)
