Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A charming jarlet of a petite form, hand-carved from creamy honey-yellow alabaster with bands of beige, caramel, and wheat-hued veining coursing throughout the composition that illuminate when held next to a bright light. The vessel is defined by a round but stable base, a spherical body, a corseted neck, a small flared rim which perhaps at one time held a form-fitting lid, and a shallow interior cavity. The interior was drilled out using a series of progressively-finer bits as well as abrasive sand, and faint traces of the original drill marks are still visible within. Size: 2.25" W x 1.9" H (5.7 cm x 4.8 cm).
