Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful alabaster vessel with an acorn-shaped body with a rounded shoulder and a thick, sloping rim meant to hold a disc-shaped lid. The alabaster features bands ranging from creamy-white to golden-ochre hues that become clearly visible when held to a bright light. The interior was drilled into, and then special tools were used to expand the drilled-upon areas to form a large cavity space. The Egyptians were master carvers and used the abundant stone deposits in the Nile Valley and the Eastern Sahara to fashion sculptures, vessels, and monumental buildings. The perfect symmetry of this example demonstrates their skill. Size: 3.75" W x 4.75" H (9.5 cm x 12.1 cm).
