Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-cast bronze headdress ornament depicting a cobra-form uraeus. The frilled 'hood' on the neck has six shallow cavities that are inlaid with creamy yellow-white enamel. The cobra head is surmounted with a recessed sun disk that at one time perhaps held additional enamel inlays or precious stones. The tail curls to a point on the verso - from where it was attached to a larger bronze object - and thick layers of green patina cover the entire snake. Size: 0.8" W x 2.4" H (2 cm x 6.1 cm); 3.8" H (9.7 cm) on included custom stand.
