Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A cast-bronze amulet in the form of the Eye of Horus (known as a wedjat or wadjet). The obverse depicts a slender, almond-shaped eye with an elongated canthus, a curved lower periphery, and a raised top periphery. The Eye of Horus is an ancient and powerful hieroglyph of protection and safety, and scholars posit that the modern medical "Rx" symbol was derived from this hieroglyph. Size: 1.25" W x 1.3" H (3.2 cm x 3.3 cm); 2" H (5.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Alabama, USA collection; ex-Roy Green collection
