Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A finely-carved wooden sculpture depicting a life-sized left hand. The hand is gently clenched to mimic holding the ceremonial pick which would have been painted above the hand on the sarcophagus body. Traces of flesh-toned gesso cover much of the top surfaces, and traces of original red on top of some fingers. Four original dowel holes still retain their dowels and show how this hand was attached to a larger coffin. Size: 5.875" L x 3.75" W (14.9 cm x 9.5 cm).
