Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A fine, mold-formed faience amulet depicting Bes, the dwarf-form deity who protected the women and children of a household with the magical sign "sa." The nude deity is presented standing with bent legs atop an integral semicircular plinth and holding stunted arms to wide hips. His expressive countenance bears a short tongue protruding from between full lips, a furrowed brow, a lion-mane beard, and pointed ears, all beneath a flared headdress. The amulet is covered in attractive layers of blue-green glaze which imbue it with an elegant presentation evocative of ancient Egypt! Size: 1.3" W x 3.6" H (3.3 cm x 9.1 cm).
