Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A fine mold-formed faience ushabti covered in traces of blue-green glaze. The figure stands with fused legs atop an integral plinth, holds a pick and hoe in hands crossed atop the chest, and has a seed bag incised behind the left shoulder. Almond-shaped eyes, full lips, and a plaited false beard comprise the serene visage, and a tripartite wig tops the head. A fine example of ancient Egyptian funerary tradition!
