Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A lovely depiction of the god of the underworld Osiris, hand-carved from a matte pistachio-green stone with brown inclusions. Osiris sits with bent, fused legs atop an integral throne, holds his signature crook and flail in arms crossed atop the chest, and wears an elaborate broad collar around his neck. Though the original head of Osiris is missing, we can still see evidence of the elaborate false beard which would have hung from his chin. Size: 2.4" L x 1.3" W x 3.6" H (6.1 cm x 3.3 cm x 9.1 cm).

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
