Description:

Egypt, late period, ca. 700 - 30 BCE. Egypt, Late Period, ca. 664–30 BCE. A finely crafted thick-walled black basalt stone bowl, featuring a carefully carved slightly raised rim and a tapered bulbous lower body. The dense, fine-grained basalt has been worked to a smooth finish, showcasing the Egyptian lapidary's mastery of one of the most demanding of all hard stones.

Vessels of this type were produced for temple, funerary, or elite domestic use, and their enduring hardness ensured their survival across millennia. Size: 3”H x 4.375”D (7.6 x 11.1cm).

Provenance: Collection of a Memphis physician. Acquired from Arte Primitivo, auction 75, lot # 96, 2015. Ex. Dr. John N. Winnie, Jr. collection, St. Marys, Georgia, 1980’s-1990’s.
