Description:

Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A charming copper lead alloy amulet representing Harpokrates, the youthful form of Horus, cast in the round and standing in a relaxed, frontal posture. The divine child god is shown nude, with his left leg slightly advanced and his right hand held to his mouth in his characteristic gesture of childhood. He wears the pschent, or double crown, symbolizing rule over Upper and Lower Egypt, with a thick side-lock of youth curling beside his ear - both emblems of his identity as a divine child. The figure is finely detailed, with softly modeled limbs, expressive facial features, and an integrated suspension loop at the back, suggesting its original use as a protective pendant. Size: 0.8" L x 0.6" W x 2" H (2 cm x 1.5 cm x 5.1 cm); 2.2" H (5.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Harpokrates was venerated as a god of silence, secrecy, and renewal, and his image was widely worn by children and adults alike to invoke health, protection, and divine favor. Such amulets were commonly buried with the dead or worn in life as powerful talismans. This example preserves a deep reddish-brown patina, enhanced by time and ritual handling.

Please note that this pendant contains over 19% lead and, thus, is not recommended for wear.
