Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A beautiful scarab amulet of a petite size that is hand-carved from emerald of sage green hues. The topside of the insectile amulet exhibits sinuous legs retracted beneath the folded wing carapace as well as a narrow triangular head with an incised clypeus just above the narrow suspension hole. The underside is unadorned, though this does not detract from the elegance of this amulet! Size: 0.6" L x 0.4" W (1.5 cm x 1 cm)

Provenance: ex-Phoenicia Holyland Antiquities, New York, New York, USA; ex-private Mr. Khabbazi collection, acquired in the early 1990s

  • Condition: Repaired from three or four pieces, with restoration along lower back periphery, and minute nicks with light adhesive residue along break lines. Light abrasions and encrustations, and minor softening to some details on topside. Smooth surface textures throughout.
