Egypt, Ptolemaic period, ca. 332 to 32 BCE. A large, multi-colored painted cartonnage fragment with a long column of hieroglyphic text. The text is flanked by a register on the left that consists of several deities, including the Four Sons of Horus. In the center is a deity with a human body and raptor head, almost certainly Horus. There are two seated zoomorphic figures in the lower registers. Size of panel: 12.8" W x 22.75" H (32.5 cm x 57.8 cm); size of frame: 17.7" W x 28" H (45 cm x 71.1 cm)

The text reads: "Anubis, in front of the divine booth, giving bread, beer, oxen, fowl, and every good and pure thing. Words to be recited by Menesh. Words to be recited by Horus-the-youthful-one. Words to be recited by Anubis, foremost of the divine booth." This panel was made to line the inside of a mummy's coffin and the text was a protective spell to take the ka, the soul, of the mummy into the afterlife.
