Description:

Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1549 to 1076 BCE. A beautiful and finely-preserved jar of a petite form, hand-carved from creamy honey-yellow alabaster with milky-white veins coursing throughout the composition which illuminate when held next to a bright light. The miniscule vessel is defined by a flat base, an inverted piriform body with a lightly-rounded shoulder, a thin rim, and a deep interior cavity. The inside of the jar was drilled out using a series of progressively finer bits as well as copious amounts of abrasive sand, and evidence of the original drill marks are still visible within. This example was perhaps created as a votive offering to be placed inside a tomb. Size: 2.25" W x 2.8" H (5.7 cm x 7.1 cm); 4.125" H (10.5 cm) on included custom stand.
