Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 11th to 13th Dynasty, ca. 2130 to 1650 BCE. A rare kohl vessel that is hand-carved from anhydrate - though the stone type is also known as "blue marble," this example is replete with more gray tones than blue. The petite footed jar features a piriform body, a sharply corseted neckline, and a flat rim that once accommodated a lid. Faint remains of the original contents are still visible within the interior cavity. Size: 1.625" W x 1.875" H (4.1 cm x 4.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ann Attal collection, Austin, TX acquired via descent from great uncle, acquired before 1950.
