Description:

Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 12th Dynasty, ca. 1991 to 1802 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab covered with a thin layer of tan glaze. The insectile topside features include a frilled clypeus, sinuous legs, and bulky elytra. Inscribed on the underside are several concentric circles, 2 neb hieroglyphs shaped like baskets, and a central Nefer hieroglyph shaped like a heart and windpipe. Size: 0.7" L x 0.46" W (1.8 cm x 1.2 cm). Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection, acquired in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA in 2022.
