Egypt, Plateau of Thebes, Middle Paleolithic Period, ca. 400,000 to 120,000 years old. A beautiful knapped chert handaxe, painstakingly formed from a rich red-brown banded chert (flint stone). The form is clear, with a nice bifacial blade edge. A handsome example of one of the earliest tools, used for millennia by our ancestors. Size: 2.85" W x 5.2" H (7.2 cm x 13.2 cm); 6.8" H (17.3 cm) on included custom stand.
