Description:

Ancient Art. Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, probably dynasty 26, ca. 662 to 525 BCE. Fine mummy mask carved from a single piece of cedar with large almond-shaped eyes, thin lips and straight slightly flaring nose. Mask covered with gesso - plaster with pigments, and attached to the mummy coffin via five wooden dowels which are still in place. Once possessing a false beard, now gone from the ravages of time. Mask was extensively studied by "The Artifact Company" in Sterling, Kentucky with radiocarbon dating from DirectAMS Radiocarbon Dating Service showing age at 2455 years old.
