Description:

Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1479 to 1401 BCE. This is a turquoise faience, coral- and white-colored carnelian, and gold bead necklace with a glazed amulet at its center in the shape of the watchful Eye of Horus (also known as the Eye of Ra or Wadjet). The amulet was probably a funerary good, placed with a mummy to protect the soul during the afterlife; it was seen as a symbol of good fortune and healing. This necklace is a beautiful example of Egyptian artistry and the colors that would have made ancient Egyptian life bright. Size: 18" L (45.7 cm).
