Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom Period, 18th Dynasty, reign of Thutmose III, ca. 1479 to 1425 BCE. A finely-preserved faience amulet depicting the cartouche of King Thutmose III (also Thutmosis III or Menkheperra[t] Thutmose III). The hieroglyphs of the cartouche - a sun disk, a board game, and a scarab - are set on both sides of the rectangular amulet. On one side the cartouche is joined by a minimalist crocodile representing the zoomorphic form of Sobek, the crocodile-headed god of fertility, military prowess, and pharaonic power, while the other side features a hieroglyph of 2 parallel lines over the cartouche. A lateral drill hole perforates the body of the amulet, allowing it to be suspended and worn as a bead or pendant. Size: 0.6" W x 0.8" H (1.5 cm x 2 cm)

Thutmosis III followed the rule of Queen Hatshepsut, his aunt and stepmother, and his great military feats from Syria to Nubia have earned him the modern title "The Napoleon of Ancient Egypt".
