Description:

Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasties, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. A petite and elegant faience jarlet, formed with a rounded body, twin pierced lug handles, and a flared lip. Painted around the shoulder is a black zigzag geometric motif - an abstracted representation of lotus petals, a sacred symbol of rebirth and regeneration in ancient Egyptian belief. Framed by fine linear bands, the pattern encircles the vessel like a garland of divine emergence, echoing the lotus's daily blooming with the rising sun. Size: 2.3" W x 2.5" H (5.8 cm x 6.4 cm); 4.8" H (12.2 cm) on included custom stand.

In ancient Egypt, a symbolic model could hold the same power as the object it represented. Miniature vessels like this were often included in burials in place of full-sized, costlier items, offering both ritual presence and economic practicality. Crafted in faience - a material revered for its luminous surface and spiritual resonance - this jarlet would have dazzled the ancient eye. The Egyptian word for faience, tehenet, stems from tehen, meaning "to dazzle," and its brilliant greenish-blue hue was closely associated with fertility, vitality, and the eternal cycle of renewal. Though modest in scale, this vessel radiates with the essence of resurrection.
