Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom period, 19th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1292 to 1076 BCE. A lovely fragment of a mold-formed faience ushabti that is covered in lustrous green glaze. The figure stands in mummiform and holds a pick and hoe in arms crossed atop the chest. The countenance is composed of almond-shaped eyes with elongated outer canthi, a broad nose above full lips, and cupped ears, all beneath a simple tripartite wig. Black pigment accentuates several features along the face and body, and a fragmentary column of hieroglyphic text in front of the legs would have presented the names of Osiris as well as the deceased. Size: 1.8" W x 3.4" H (4.6 cm x 8.6 cm); 5.8" H (14.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-Julian Bird collection, London, UK, acquired between 1970 and 2012
