Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 19th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1292 to 1070 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab of ovoid form with incised elytra, a frilled clypeus, and sinuous legs. Beneath the domed insect is a pair of incised gods - Ptah standing in mummiform and Atum in a striding pose - facing to the right. A suspension hole is drilled lengthwise through the body for mounting on a necklace or a swivel ring. Size: 0.7" L x 0.5" W (1.8 cm x 1.3 cm)
