Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. A finely preserved example of a hand-carved wooden ushabti. The mummiform figure presents with delineated feet, wears a wide skirt, and holds both arms together above the abdomen. The slender head is slightly downturned and exhibits minimalist facial features, and the face is framed by lengthy bangs in front of the angular shoulders. Black-hued bitumen covers the entire figure and perhaps served as a ground for additional pigment at one time. Size: 2.625" W x 8" H (6.7 cm x 20.3 cm)

  • Condition: One large fissure down entire verso, with fading to applied bitumen pigment, and softening to some finer details on face, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of bitumen across surfaces.
