Description:

Egypt, Old Kingdom, Dynasties 3 - 6, ca. 2500 BCE. Beautiful highly polished stone mace head of an unusual stone with distinct pink and tan highlights. Typical piriform shape with central shaft hole, certainly designed for status and ceremony and not for battle. Custom mounted on an acrylic base with brass plaque indicating it is a "granite Mace Head - 2500 BC" but this author believes the stone to be in the marble family and not granite. Size: 2.25" in diameter x 2.25" H (5.7 cm x 5.7 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
