Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved wooden mummy mask depicting the slender face covered with painted layers of gesso. The mask is perhaps for a woman - based on the eyes' size relative to the rest of the face as well as the emphasized lashes - as the ovoid form exhibits a slender nose, full lips, tapering cheeks and sweeping eye brows indicative of feminine Egyptian beauty. The forehead is wrapped with a red sash and topped with a rounded headdress boasting hues of turquoise and forest-green. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 6.8" W x 11.25" H (17.3 cm x 28.6 cm).
