Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 12 to 13th Dynasty, ca. 1850 to 1700 BCE. Rare and refined kohl vessel, carved from pink marble, with lovely grey and cream inclusions, used to store cosmetics in Ancient Egypt. Small footed jar with bulbous midsection and flat rim - once having flat lid. A breathtaking example, made from gorgeous marble rather than the usual alabaster. Size: 1-3/8" x 1-3/8" in diameter at widest (3.5 x 3.5 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Bates Collection, Clarksville, IA, ex-Joel Malter Collection, acquired before 1990.
