Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, 18th to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 664 BCE. An interesting mold-formed pottery plaque figure depicting a left-facing baboon. The seated simian has its left elbow resting on its raised knee and holds one hand to the middle of its elongated snout. The baboon appears to wear a textured vestment along its upper body, perhaps as garb meant to wrap a mummified zoomorphic offering. The raised head bears one cupped ear, a coffee-bean eye, and a rounded top that gives the baboon the impression of being bald. A charming pottery example from ancient Egypt! Size: 1.5" W x 2.9" H (3.8 cm x 7.4 cm)

Provenance: estate of Dr. W.M. Bogdanowicz, Naples, Florida USA, purchased in 1993 at Grays Antiques, Mayfair, London, UK
