Description:

Ancient Egypt, Pre- Dynastic, Naqada III, ca. 3250 to 3100 BCE. A lovely mace head presenting a globular, ceremonial form and an annular socketing shaft, all hand-carved from light pink alabaster with natural white bands. The weapon's profile tapers towards the base where a wooden rod would be inserted into the drilled socketing hole. The meandering bands create a mesmerizing, ripple-like effect across the head's smooth exterior. Mace heads shaped like this example have been found in Naqada II tombs of both men and women and may have served as an indication of the deceased's authority. Size: 2.3" W x 1.8" H (5.8 cm x 4.6 cm); 2.7" H (6.9 cm) on included custom stand.
