Ancient Egypt, early Pre-Dynastic Period, Naqada I, ca. 4000 BCE. A hand-built redware pottery vase of an elongated, egg-like form with a rounded base and a tapered upper body. The orange-red terracotta is pained with a bright red slip that has formed nice craquelure across the surfaces over time. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.6" W x 6" H (6.6 cm x 15.2 cm)

Provenance: private Raleigh, North Carolina, USA collection, acquired via descent from father, who acquired it in the mid-1950s from a museum curator in London; accompanied by a description from the curator
