Description:

Ancient Egypt, Pre-Dynastic Period, ca. 4400 to 3100 BCE. A hand-carved stone grinding platform and an ovoid handpiece. The oblong basin has a lightly concave grinding platform used to mill coarse substances into finer powders. The handpiece is acutely angled and incredibly smooth on the grinding surface from countless uses. Size (grinding platform): 17.1" L x 11.5" W (43.4 cm x 29.2 cm); size (handpiece): 4.1" L (10.4 cm).

  • Condition: Grinding platform repaired from a couple of large pieces with some resurfacing and light adhesive residue along break lines. Small nicks and abrasions to platform and handpiece, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
