Description:

Ancient Egypt, Predynastic to Old Kingdom Period, ca. 3200 to 2686 BCE. A set of 2 hand-carved stone artifacts including a mace head and an axe blade. The stone axe is trapezoidal in form and features a blunt striking end and a tapered butt. The barrel-shaped mace head exhibits integral stripes within the stone and a green surface hue, likely from exposure to iron rather than being painted for decoration. Size of largest: 5.4" L x 2.375" W (13.7 cm x 6 cm)

  • Condition: Green hue on mace head likely due to exposure to iron and not due to pigment. Both with chips and erosion in scattered areas, otherwise in great condition. Nice surface smoothness throughout.
