Description:

Ancient Egypt, late Predynastic Period, ca. 3300 to 3000 BCE. A set of 3 hand-carved mace heads, each of relatively spherical form with a hafting hole drilled biconically from top to bottom. The first weapon is carved from a deep green stone while the second exhibits lighter hues of beige and taupe. The beige mace and the largest mace head exhibit scattered green deposits that stand out nicely against the stone color. Size of largest (chipped surfaces): 2.86" L x 2.70" W x 2.59" H (7.3 cm x 6.9 cm x 6.6 cm)

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, purchased from Eastern Dynasty Antiques, Lapeer, Wisconsin, USA, December 28, 2015, lots 61, 62, and 65; ex-private American collection, acquired in Afghanistan between 1980 and 1982
