Egypt, Ptolemaic Period, ca. 332 to 30 BCE. A petite amulet of Harpocrates, the child god of silence and secret-keeping, standing with one finger placed to his lips in a gesture of secrecy. The child god presents with one wing and a tall crown, perhaps once with bull horns flanking a sun disc. A suspension loop on the verso enabled this pendant to be worn. Size: 0.5" W x 1.23" H (1.3 cm x 3.1 cm); silver quality: 59.04%; weight: 3.0 grams
