Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom Period, 19th Dynasty, reign of Ramesses I, ca. 1292 to 1290 BCE. A petite mold-formed faience scarab of an ovoid form with a slender suspension hole perforated lengthwise through the body. The topside exhibits characteristic insectile features like a trapezoidal head, a folded wing carapace, and retracted legs. The underside incised with the throne name of pharaoh Ramesses I, "Menpehtyra." The scarab is covered in lustrous layers of turquoise-hued glaze that creates an attractive presentation. Size: 0.5" L x 0.3" W (1.3 cm x 0.8 cm)

  • Condition: Minor abrasions to top, peripheries, and underside, with minor fading to areas of original glaze pigment, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and great traces of original glaze color throughout. Cartouche hieroglyphs are still clear and legible.
