Egyptian, Late Period, ca. 700 to 30 BCE. A carved limestone falcon head depicting Horus, the god of the sun, war, and protection - one of the most important deities in ancient Egypt who was also the son of Isis and Osiris and played many roles in the pantheon of Egyptian gods. The piece shows an overall deep brown surface patina and comes from an old 19th century collection; collection number ("No - 492") is inked on the back. Custom wood block stand included. Size: piece itself 2.875" W x 3.25" H (7.3 cm x 8.3 cm); 5.5" H (14 cm) on stand.

Provenance: Ex-private L. Nathan collection, ex- Melvin Dwork collection, New York City; acquired from an old 19th century collection number on back.
