Egypt, Second Intermediate, Dynasties 13 to 17, ca. 1650 to 1550 BCE. A tan stone steatite beetle of a somewhat naturalistic form, the base inscribed with iconography chosen for its powerful symbolism. In the center is an ankh meaning life. Flanking the ankh are a pair of sa amulets for protection. Finally, at each end is a neb sign meaning gold. Laterally perforated for suspension. Size: .625" L x .375" W (1.6 cm x 1 cm)

Provenance: ex-Egyptian Exploration Society, acquired between the late 19th century and early 20th century; ex-Klein collection and Mrs. French collection; ex-Rossetti collection, acquired before 1950
