Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 664 BCE. A hand-carved hardstone heart scarab exhibiting naturalistic features along the topside like striated elytra and a notched clypeus. The uninscribed underside indicates that this scarab was likely for sale. Once a heart scarab was purchased, the artisan would inscribe personalized names and prayers, typically for newlyweds or deceased individuals cheating their way into the afterlife. Size: 2.01" L x 1.42" W x 0.65" H (5.1 cm x 3.6 cm x 1.7 cm)
