Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 664 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet of Bastet, goddess of cats, covered in lustrous glaze. The feminine feline figure presents in a striding pose with one arm held at her waist and the other holding an aegis of Sekhmet in front of her abdomen. The lappets of her wig are draped atop her clavicle and chest, and her cat-form face features a powerful snout and a pair of perky ears centered by a uraeus cobra. A column of hieroglyphs on the back read, "recitation by Bastet." Size: 0.58" L x 0.79" W x 2.05" H (1.5 cm x 2 cm x 5.2 cm); 3.38" H (8.6 cm) on included custom stand.
