Description:

Spanish Colonial, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. An evocative wooden Christ shown crucified, his emaciated body covered only by a loincloth as his head solemnly droops forward. Red blood drips down from his stigmata, most noticeably from the puncture wounds in his lung and the scrapes from his crown of thorns on his brow. his example was created when Mexico was referred to as New Spain and the Catholic Church's missionary work was expanding northward into the Southwest region of the United States. Such sculptures were intended for churches, but were also paraded through towns during Holy Week. Size: 2.1" L x 11.9" W x 14.2" H (5.3 cm x 30.2 cm x 36.1 cm)
