Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Casas Grandes, ca. 1100 to 1200 CE. A polychrome pottery olla of large bulbous, round-bottomed body, corsetted to a gently flaring neck. The body boasts striking zigzag motifs, triangular forms inscribed with striated forms with curled terminals, and bands of animorphic visages painted in red, cream, and black hues. Some of the designs are painted in red and outlined in black, quite characteristic of the Casas Grande tradition. Size: 10.75" in diameter at widest x 9.75" H (27.3 cm x 24.8 cm)

  • Condition: Small loss to rim as shown. Surface wear with minor pigment losses. Nice mineral deposits and root marks as shown. Diagonal mark over one spiral form seems to be a root mark rather than a fissure.
