Egypt, end of Third Intermediate to beginning of Late Period, 22 to 27th Dynasties, ca. 750 to 500 BCE. An impressive sarcophagus mask, carved from a fine-grained hardwood, the oval/heart-shaped, white painted face with finely delineated naturalistic nose and lips, well-modeled cheeks, almond-shaped eyes dramatically lined in black, and finely arched black brows ending just short of the contours of the bridge of the nose - all topped by a grand blue headdress trimmed with painted black 'beads' along the brim. Original paint, original gesso, original peg holes on backside for attachment to sarcophagus with some original pegs still in place. Custom stand. Size: mask itself measures 9.5" W x 13.25" H (24.1 cm x 33.7 cm); 16.75" H (42.5 cm) on stand.
