Carlos Inigo Robles (Mexican, d. 2005), "Altar Panel," ca. mid to late 20th century CE. This is a beautiful copper and tin altar panel adorned with Milagros around a brass Christ in high relief, as well as several pieces of glass and brass and nickel fittings from furniture! The copper sheet is hammered flat and stamped with floral and geometric patterning, then molded over a wooden frame with a scalloped iron-copper alloy trim. The lower center edge is stamped with the artist's signature "Inigo." The artist makes use of assorted metal pieces, such as handles and hardware from furniture- including drawer pulls with lovely scrollwork, and Milagros of praying figures and hearts. Milagros are religious folk charms that are traditionally used for healing purposes and as votive offerings in Mexico, the southern United States, other areas of Latin America. Three faceted translucent glass chandelier crystals and a blue and red square of glass are set flush into the tin panel. Size: 13.875" L x 0.75" W x 16.625" H (35.2 cm x 1.9 cm x 42.2 cm)
