Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1303 BCE. A tall and slender spindle bottle formed from redware that stands atop a flared foot. The elegant silhouette exhibits a rounded shoulder above the tapering body, a narrowing neck surmounted with an everted lip, and a thick handle arching off the verso. The stone-burnished surfaces showcase wonderful luster and smooth textures that are impressive given its age. The Spindle vessel form is thought to have originated in Cyprus where they were filled with oils, wine, funerary offerings, or other various materials and transported to Egypt for trade. Size: 2.6" W x 13.125" H (6.6 cm x 33.3 cm)
