Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 1550 to 30 BCE. An intriguing amulet carved from mottled steatite in the form of a ram-headed falcon. The petite bird stands atop slender legs and folds its wings back atop its tail, and its ram head exhibits characteristic features like a tapered snout and a prominent pair of horns. A rare and finely preserved example of Egyptian amalgam creatures! Size: 0.75" W x 0.9" H (1.9 cm x 2.3 cm); 1.125" H (2.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA collection, acquired in July 1996; ex-Royal-Athena Galleries, New York, USA; ex-private Monnier collection, Paris, France; on loan to Ball State University Art Gallery, George Mason University, and the Fitchburg Art Museum from 1997 to 2015
